The 2022 IPCC report claims that Mumbai is one of the most vulnerable cities in the world. Not only is it subject to sea level rise, but with a burgeoning population, rampant construction, and desperate struggle for resources, the city is bursting at its seams. Is it finally time to pause and question how stable is Mumbai’s ecosystem— what are its ecological conflicts, and how can they be resolved? How do we continue to imagine Mumbai as the Maximum City?
